Refinishing costs a fraction of new cabinets and keeps the boxes already on your wall. If the doors are solid and the layout works, the finish is the only thing worth changing.
Doors and drawer fronts come off and get labeled, so every one goes back on the hinge it came from. Kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking grease, and that gets cleaned off before anything else — skip it and the new finish lets go later no matter what went over the top of it.
After degreasing it’s a scuff-sand, a bonding primer made for cabinet surfaces, and sprayed finish coats rather than brushed ones. Spraying is what leaves the door smooth instead of showing a brush mark in every panel. Boxes and face frames get the same treatment in place, masked off from the rest of the room.
